Walled Garden

The Project

This walled garden comprised a very uneven lawn and a narrow border along one wall. The brief was to create seating areas that took advantage of the sun at certain times of the day, including a main patio and entertainment space, and a smaller area enjoying a view through to the field beyond. The client is a keen gardener and wanted larger borders and more scope for varied plant- ing. The eventual design is a simple formal layout connecting key areas of the garden. The planting is however naturalistic in style and the use of later flowering perennials and grasses means that the garden retains colour and structure well into autumn. The stone cobbles used for the construc- tion of main paths were recovered from the site.

“Working with Rachel has been such a pleasure. Rachel listened to what I wanted to achieve from my neglected walled garden and produced some excellent ideas and plans. I now have a garden that is a beautiful space to be in. Since the original design Rachel has worked with me on planting plans and developing further areas of the garden. Rachel’s enthusiasm is contagious, her knowledge covers so many areas and she is willing to research anything. I am looking forward to continuing working with her on new projects”
